You’ve Got to Finish the Race
Being quick sometimes isn't enough
Last night we competed in our racing club’s local district series, The Molles Evening Cup. It was seen as a good warmup for the 2nd Round of the SKCC national series in Jönköping this weekend.
Things did not quite go to plan after a very promising start, which saw Deven qualify on the third row of the grid. However it all went downhill from there. A double penalty in the sprint race followed by a DNF in the final resulted in a 12th place ending classification where the opportunity for so much more was there for the taking.
Team Principal Dan commented, “A 12th place position was actually a disappointment given the pace we showed in the build up to the sprint and feature races. On the other hand, we snatched up the team’s first hardware of the season, which we are very proud of. We could have used a more positive result going into the next round of the SKCC this weekend, but this will be used as a learning tool as well. You learn more from your missteps than your successes.”
Our young driver, Deven, had this to say about the day, “I was really happy with how fast I was today, and qualifying 6th and in the top half of the field was definitely the highlight for me. But then I got in a tangle at the start of the sprint race, and got a front fairing penalty, as well as a warning when I misjudged a passing move trying to gain back positions a few laps later. So I finished 10th in the sprint race, but had to start at the back of the field for the final. Then I just got a little bit too greedy at the back hair-pin after the start, put a rear wheel in the grass, and spun out. Then the track official misunderstood me and didn’t let me start the kart again, so that was a really disappointing end to a promising start where we should have finished much higher.”
So, there you have it - another eventful race day. Onwards and upwards to the next one!
